2017 Skincare Discoveries
In my book skincare is just as important as makeup. For your makeup to perform at it’s best your skin needs to be doing it’s best as well. There are some skin issues that you might need to consult a Dermatologist about but for the most part skincare is about getting your skin balanced. This includes regular cleansing but not over cleansing. Moisturizing without clogging pores. Exfoliating without damaging. Here are my favorite skincare discoveries from 2017 that have helped my skin find balance.
The Ordinary
This brand became huge in 2017 and now they are sold on Sephora as well. I fell in love with their lactic acid products. Lactic acid is a chemical exfoliant. I layer it underneath my creams at nighttime. This is a water based product so if it gets applied over a cream or anything with an oil in it the acid cannot get into the skin and do its job. I’ve also really enjoyed all of the oils from The Ordinary especially their Rosehip Oil. I use it at night and sometimes as my makeup primer.
Cera-Ve
This was a huge skincare discovery for me. Their Hydrating Facial Cleanser is so fantastic. It cleanses and never dries out my skin. Since falling in love with this cleanser I’ve also started using their eye cream and it is also so unbelievably amazing. It moisturizes and absorbs quickly. I’ve always had very dry and flakey undereye areas and this has helped so much. I use it morning and night. And just last week I picked up their daytime spf 30 facial lotion and so far so good. Oh! I also use their body wash. Gosh I really like this brand.
Origins Drink Up Intensive Overnight Mask
I used up my Aveda Tulasara night cream and it was awesome but I just felt like trying something new. So after lots of research and samples I landed on this gem and I think I'm going to be repurchasing this one for a while. It is very moisturizing but it sinks right into the skin and feels so nice. I'll probably use this through the spring and see how it does on my skin in warmer weather.

Peter Thomas Roth Pumpkin Enzyme Mask
This is a very expensive mask that I really wanted to try bacause I’ve heard such good things but at the same time I didn’t want to try because I didn’t want to be hooked on such an expensive product. I got a sample and then I found a reasonbly priced sampler pack and this stuff is awesome. I’m going to spend the money on a full size one soon. And I don’t feel too bad about it. I use this maybe once a week and you only use a little bit so I know it’ll last me a while.

Aveda Hydrating Treatment Lotion (Essense)
This is a liquid, water product that helps your skin hold onto moisture. I really notice a difference when I use this in the morning. My skin looks plumper and my skin tone is more even. Some toners can be not hydrating for my dry skin and this product is a total game changer.
